The Artist
Through her art, Barbara invites viewers to see Jerusalem and Israel not just as a place of historical interest, but as a living, breathing reflection of resilience, faith, light, and hope.
Hines is a German born painter whose large scale paintings of Jerusalem and the Judean hills capture the beauty of the land and the spiritual depth it holds. The daughter of Holocaust survivors, Barbara was raised in Australia without knowledge of her Jewish roots: a heritage revealed later in life.
That discovery transformed her art-turning her focus toward Israel, the Torah and stories that shape Jewish identity.
The Exhibition
Jerusalem in My Soul presents Barbara Hines’s vibrant interpretations of Jerusalem, its sacred sites, and surrounding landscapes.
Moving between recognizable places and expressive abstraction, her paintings reveal a city of extraordinary beauty, energy, and emotion. Richly layered textures and luminous colors evoke a Jerusalem that is both physical and spiritual, familiar and deeply personal.
The exhibition invites visitors to experience the city not only as a place, but as a presence - seen, felt, and remembered.

The Artistic Process
“Simply painting this land didn’t feel like enough. I wanted the holy land to become part of my paintings, so I began mixing soil from my Jerusalem garden into my pigments.”

The Artist’s Journey
For Barbara Hines, painting is an exploration of identity, faith, and belonging. Shaped by her experiences across different cultures, her artistic journey has led her to Jerusalem, where she captures not only the city's landscapes, but also its spirit and emotional presence.
“I tried to capture on canvas not just what Jerusalem looked like, but what it felt like.”
